Introduction to a good article

On 19 November 2012 Sony announced that its PlayStation Mobile Developer program was out of beta and was officially launching. The program allows developers to make applications and games that target a range of PlayStation certified devices. These include the PlayStation Vita and a number of other Android based devices.

My intention here is to only write a "Hello World" application and get it running on a PS Vita. While I talk about some of the code that is presented with this article this article doesn't focus on the code. Instead my goal is to get document what I needed to do to get a Hello world program running on the Vita, including meeting Sony's requirements for deploying to a device. I encountered a few obstacles to this task. But from a documentation standpoint this is a good thing since this may help other developers more easily avoid the obstacles I ran into.

Requirements

• Windows 7 (Windows 8 not supported)
• PlayStation Mobile SDK (PSM SDK)
• (Optional)PlayStation Certified device
• Familiarity with C#
• Some familiarity with pixel and vertex shaders
• Residence in one of the countries where the SDK is supported

Sony announces two Android tablets - News at GameSpot

Sony has announced two tablets based on Android 3.0.

Sony has today announced two new tablet devices, currently codenamed S1 and S2. Both devices will run Google's Android 3.0 "Honeycomb" operating system, sport the Tegra 2 processor, can connect to both Wi-Fi and 3G/4G, and are pegged for release in the global market during fall 2011. Sony has not announced a price for either device.

The S1 boasts a 9.4-inch screen, as well as both front- and rear-facing cameras. Sony has dubbed the S1 its "rich media" tablet, as it is focused on its Qriocitymedia service, and it will sport an infrared sensor that will enable it to act as a remote control for other Sony gear like televisions.

The S2 will have two screens.

The second tablet Sony announced today is the dual-screen S2, which had been rumored since January. The device sports two 5.5-inch, 1,024 x 480 pixel displays, which will allow users a range of possibilities, including video viewing on one screen and manipulating buttons on the other. Additionally, for gaming, the top screen will display the title and the bottom will offer touch-sensitive controls.

Scientists (presumably mad) at pabr.org have combined the Move with an old-school turntable in order to provide experimental evidence of Earth's diurnal rotation. Basically, you can use a Move and your dad's record player instead of a 70-meter high, perfectly weighted Foucault's Pendulum to confirm that the earth actually rotates in space, find geographic North, and measure latitude.
It's not really fun, per se, but it's very, very cool. Check it out in the video below, and visit the site for tech-specs so you can recreate the device at home!

Okay, I know there is much debate over whether or not digital comics are viable or even necessary. I personally love comics in both digital and printed forms. Personally I would love to be able to read comics on my PS3 the way I do on my PSP. It should be seamless. When you buy a comic book through the Playstation Network you should be able to read it on your PSP or your PS3. Truth is I would love a platform where you can subscribe to series and be able to by them once and read them on multiple devices: PSP, PS3, Windows, iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and Android devices. Yeah, I know. I can dream can't I?

I just read an article about the government using PS3s to break encryption codes on pedophiles' computers. The PS3 is capable of process 4 million passwords a second. It's cost and power makes it a great workhorse for number crunching. They are using the older versions because the Slim models are not capable of putting Linux on them. I was sadden by this information because putting Linux on PS3 was one reason I wanted to get two PS3s - one to play with for games/movies and the other for Linux. Looks like one of them will have to be the older one.

Sony Abandons UMD Transfer Program For PSP Go

I'm not pleased with the news that Sony is not offering a way to transfer UMD games to the new PSP GO. It appears that they are going to just let UMD die. Owning a PSP now means that if I want to keep playing my games I have to keep my PSP in working order because I will not be able to play them on the PSP Go. This bothers me because Sony seems to not have learned much from Nintendo's near disasters back in the 1990's by not having any backwards compatibility. Nintendo, has definitely learned not to do that and I hope Sony will wise up soon. Sony no longer has a monopoly on the market. There are too many other options for video game systems for Sony to not allow customers to have freedom. According to this article, the UK customers are going to be given the option to a few games currently available on UMD.
